My Philosophy
Empower. Innovate. Create.
The art room is a safe place where student curiosity, interests, and ideas lead the learning. My role is to facilitate collaborative projects and discussions that utilize academic language and creative thinking. Through teaching artistic behavior that embraces core curriculum, students are empowered to seek out questions, self-reflect, and generate innovative ideas that express individuality. Art becomes an experience that allows students to explore the creative process without the fear of failure. I empower them to take risks and turn mistakes into learning opportunities for personal growth.
As an art teacher and mentor I establish positive relationships with my students that support their social emotional growth. I encourage a growth mindset by providing time for students to self-reflect, discuss, and set goals to improve or enhance their work in the future. Every student’s abilities, strengths and culture is celebrated within the classroom and they are given a sense of purpose using art as a creative outlet. Regardless if a student wants to become a painter, engineer, or math teacher they will learn how to think like an artist and appreciate the creative process and outcome.
